Carole and Roger
Here is what I call Carole's and my FamilyWeb - which
identifies our ancestors up to the 16 great-great-grandparents. Details about
the ancestors in some of these lines are provided below. A bit more about us
is at the end of this page.
Tony merits his own web-page (link above), but here are some tidbits:
Our Grandfather on Tony's Side
Our Great-Grandfather on Tony's Side
- This is interesting one - Anthony Jacques Cheeper
/ Clarke (1837-1918)
He had 33-34 children by 5 wives, and has over 200 known descendants (that
we've tracked down). From the perspective of Tony and his siblings, that
included 48 first cousins
– 28 half-first cousins (all Cheepers, none of whom they knew of),
as well as 20 full first cousins (few of whom they ever met, and indeed
few of
whom they knew of)
- AJC's families were with:
- Catherine Spilsbury (10 children,
1858-c.1877), and 44 known descendants
- Mary Wanless (3 children, 1872-1882),
and 32 known descendants, incl. Geoff Clarke
(Acknowledgements below)
- Emma Terry (4 children, 1882-c.1895),
and 29 known descendants
- Kate Davidge (11
children, 1883-c. 1904), and 131 known descendants
– our line
- Amy Clark (5-6 children, 1901-c.1912),
and 2 known descendants
Our Grandmother on Tony's Side
Our Mother - Irene Gladys Whiteman/Clarke (1926-2004)

Some of the information on the site results from my own research. A lot of
it of course comes from research undertaken by other people, in particular:
- all of the research on the older Haskins lines was undertaken by Peter
Haskins in the 1980s, and checked again in 2007. Anne Kratzmann
added greatly to it from about 2002. Trisha Bennett (once
she discovered us in February 2008) has added lots more.
- the Anthony Jacques Cheeper/Clarke lines were completely cut off from one
another.Geoff Clarke of Walton-on-Thames discovered quite
a few elements for some of the families during the 1980s, but we didn't achieve
contact until the end of 2003. I started about 1990, but the bulk of the information
on this site was discovered by Anne Kratzmann from Kingaroy.
Much of her foundation work was done between 2000 and 2003, and once we had
Geoff's information, we were able to cross-check it with ours, and consolidate
those aspects that we didn't already have. Multiple additional individuals,
and whole new lines, were discovered and added from 2004 to 2010
- after Anne proved the existence of a large Canadian branch in 2009, we achieved
contact, and additional information was provided by Frank Conrick,
Ed Hitchinson, and Gordon Foster, all of
Ontario
- the Whiteman lines (my mother's side) started with my own work based on
interviews with my mother, but Anne Kratzmann provided the
data for the Winfield line and much detail in many other branches. The Wagstaff
and Irons lines were greatly expanded by the work of Catherine and
Jane Gravelle. The Dunkley line was greatly expanded when Caroline
Dickens discovered the site in October 2008
Most of the analysis and text is my responsibility alone. Given the scale of
the effort involved, it inevitably contains lots of errors.
Please advise me of any errors that
are problematical and need to be fixed!! And please feel free to provide
additional information about the clan.
