On 7 April 1881, Lorenzo arrived in N.S.W. as a widower, aged 42, with children aged 8/9 and 13/14.

m. 21 Apr 1881, at St Mary's Cathedral in Sydney (14 days after arrival and 33 days after Catterina's death).

    Ellen was the sister of Nathaniel's wife, Mary Anne
    Fruit and vege business with 6. Nathaniel, in Norton St, Leichhardt.
    They moved to Woodburn in 1913 (Source The Catholic Press, 1913).

    They ran a successful bakery, but had to turn the business over to a returning soldier.
    Ellen, and perhaps also Larry, were in Sydney 1922-25
    In 1920, they purchased a cane and cropping farm at 1012 Pimlico Rd, Wardell.
    In 1928, they sold a block of land in Sutherland to his half-sister Anna (Netta) Tome.

  8. Kate's memories of New Italy included:
    • a new teacher who required that English be spoken. The children were silent in the schoolyard at lunchtime. When asked why, they explained that 'we don't know how to play in English'; so he relented on the use of Italian – but only outside the classroom
    • Aboriginals came, accepted bread from mother Maria, pulled a live snake from their dili-bag, whip-cracked it, cooked it, and ate it in a sandwich
    • they had a pet kangaroo, which mother Maria initially kept in a peg-pouch to keep it warm
